Pet Dog Participants Needed For Chronic Elbow Osteoarthritis Study

The Comparative Orthopedic Research Laboratory is recruiting pet dogs to be enrolled into a 24 week-long clinical study that will evaluate the use of a novel oral medication used to treat chronic osteoarthritis in dogs.

Dogs qualifying for the study must have already been definitively diagnosed with chronic elbow osteoarthritis by a licensed veterinarian (Note: this diagnosis must not be assumed and must include radiographic (X-ray) evidence of the disease!). Other critical eligibility criteria are listed at http://www.vetmed.wsu.edu/researchvcs/elbow.aspx .

Owners of dogs that qualify for the study will be responsible for daily oral administration of the novel product, maintaining a weekly journal of their dog’s activity at home, and return to WSU every 4 weeks for reassessment over the course of the study. Dog owners that complete the entire 24 week-long study will receive a compensation of $1000 for their time.

For more information about this study and to schedule a screening appointment contact Nicole Hagemeyer, CORL Supervisor, at 5-7747, 800.498.9459, or nhagemeyer@vetmed.wsu.edu.

This clinical study has been approved by the Washington State University Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee.
