RICHLAND, Wash. Elizabeth “Liza” Nagel, Ph.D., has been named the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Professional Programs at Washington State University Tri-Cities.A nationwide search was conducted for the new position to lead the colleges of Business, Education, Engineering, and Nursing programs at WSU Tri-Cities.
“Dr. Nagel is an accomplished faculty member and administrator,” said James R. “Dick” Pratt, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at WSU Tri-Cities. “I am pleased to announce this appointment.”
Within those four academic areas, Nagel will be responsible for faculty and staff, student services, budget, strategic planning, assisting with grants, and developing partnerships regionally and within the WSU system.
Nagel joined WSU Tri-Cities in 2008 as the academic director for College of Education programs and a professor in the Department of Teaching and Learning. Since last August, she also has served as the interim academic director of programs for the College of Business. Her new duties are effective July 1.
Previously, Nagel was associate dean of the graduate school at the University of New Mexico. Her scholarly work focuses on stress management and the study of substance abuse. She currently serves on the board of directors for the Children’s Reading Foundation of the Mid-Columbia and on the Delta High School Advisory Board.
Nagel earned her baccalaureate degree in child development at California State University, Chico and attended WSU Pullman for graduate school. She holds a master’s in home economics and family relations. In 1990, Nagel earned her doctorate in higher education with her dissertation on “Minority Participation in Graduate Education Since the Civil Rights Act of 1964.”
