Alumna encourages new ideas in television

PULLMAN, Wash. – Nicole Mirante-Matthews, co-executive producer of NCIS, spoke at Washington State University as part of an event sponsored by the Women’s Resource Center. She encouraged students to find stories that move them and to tell them well.

“I wouldn’t focus on something you think might be commercially viable,” she said. “I would focus on things that move you as a writer. That’s what I did.”

Mirante-Matthews graduated from WSU in 1992 with a degree in communication. Her degree took her to Hollywood, where she became a writer for NCIS on CBS. In her career she has worked on multiple shows including Law & Order: Criminal Intent.
