WSU Extension program supports military youth

PUYALLUP, Wash. – April marks the nation’s Month of the Military Child, a time to honor youth affected by deployment. To celebrate, Washington’s Operation: Military Kids program is encouraging everyone across the state to wear purple on Friday, April 13, to show support and thank military children for their strength and sacrifice.

Purple symbolizes all branches of the military. Operation: Military Kids is a program of Washington State University Extension.

“It’s important for the children of deployed parents to know they are a vital part of the military community,” said Kevin Wright, WSU Extension Operation: Military Kids liaison.  “Wearing purple will visually reinforce how much they contribute.”

Washington joins dozens of other states taking part in the celebration. The goal is to have as many youth and adults as possible wear purple shirts, pants, skirts and hats to honor military youth.
