WSU hopeful of positive turning point in budget

PULLMAN, Wash. – While it is too early to say for certain, we may have reached something of a turning point with Tuesday’s release of the Senate leadership’s budget, says WSU President Elson S. Floyd in his recent Perspectives column. For the first time in four years, a new state budget proposal does not include an additional reduction for higher education.
I am greatly encouraged by the conversations I have had in recent weeks with our state’s political and business leaders, Floyd says. They understand the issues and they are working, even in the face of continued fiscal difficulties, to make things better.
