WSU graduate to lead Maryland farmer bureau

PULLMAN, Wash. – Ray Ediger, alumnus of the Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine (’61), was elected president of the Frederick County Farm Bureau in Maryland early this month.

Ediger graduated from the WSU veterinary college in 1961 and settled in Maryland after serving in the military. He worked for 20 years as the manager of the Fort Detrick animal production facility and 24 years as a veterinarian. He was elected president of the bureau Jan. 1.

The farm bureau was created to give Maryland farmers a legislative voice and to spread awareness and understanding of farming in the state, which often gets criticized by local environmental groups.

“Dr. Ediger is just awesome,” said Chuck Fry, vice president of the Maryland Farm Bureau. “He’s funny, witty, obviously intelligent and has the ability to get people to work together. He’s very smooth. Dr. Ediger is locked, loaded and ready to go.”
