Konkel earns award for work with gastroenteritis bacteria

PULLMAN, Wash. – Professor Michael Konkel, Washington State University School of Molecular Biosciences, recently received the 2011 Pfizer Animal Health Award for Research Excellence for his ongoing work on pathogenesis and pre-harvest food safety with Campylobacter jejuni.

The bacteria is one of the most common causes of human gastroenteritis in the world.

The award, established in 1985, is given to faculty who, through their dedication and investigation in research, are chosen from among their peers in the field of veterinary medicine. See earlier honorees here.
