WSU Vancouver in search of next chancellor

VANCOUVER, Wash. – A 17-member committee has been appointed to lead the search for the next chancellor of Washington State University Vancouver. Gay Selby, assistant clinical professor in the College of Education, is committee chair.

The search committee will accept confidential applications and nominations until the position is filled. Candidate screening will begin immediately. For best consideration, applications and nominations should be provided by Dec. 1.

The public is invited to offer input at a forum 4-5:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7, in the Dengerink Administration building, room 129/130 on the Vancouver campus. The forum will focus on what the campus and community at large are looking for in the next chancellor.

“The search committee is focused on finding the person who is the right ‘fit’ for the university and the community,” said Selby. “The right fit is a person who will continue to lead WSU Vancouver in its mission to provide world-class higher education opportunities in southwest Washington through high-quality programs with a strong research base and positive working relationships with constituents throughout the region.”

The chancellor will fill the role vacated when H.A. “Hal” Dengerink, WSU Vancouver’s founding chancellor, retired in August.

The committee is comprised of 12 members of WSU’s faculty and staff including two from Pullman, one from Spokane and nine from Vancouver; one WSU Vancouver student; and four business leaders from southwest Washington. Working with assistance from Greenwood/Asher & Associates, Inc., an executive search firm based in Miramar, Fla., the committee is tasked with recommending top candidates to WSU President Elson S. Floyd.

The chancellor is the chief executive officer of WSU Vancouver and reports to the president.

The next chancellor will play a pivotal role in the growth and future of the university. As the visionary leader of WSU Vancouver, the chancellor provides the overall direction for campus programs, activities and services. In this role, the chancellor is also responsible for academic leadership, fiscal management and the physical and human resource development of the growing Vancouver campus.
