The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission has just issued on Friday, September 30, an operating license renewal for the WSU nuclear reactor. The new operating license will be valid until September 30, 2031. The dedicated and highly competent staff members and students at the Nuclear Radiation Center should be commended for the high quality of work that is required to maintain a safe facility in compliance with all Federal laws and regulations.
WSU’s nuclear reactor, which is operated by the Nuclear Radiation Center, is one of only 12 university nuclear reactors in the U.S. that are licensed to operate at one million or more watts of power. The NRC is hosting class tours of the reactor facility in support of the WSU Common Reading Program.
