September is National Preparedness Month

Personal preparedness is simple and can make your life both safer and more comfortable in the case of an emergency. It comes down to three simple steps.

1. Build a kit including water, nonperishable food supplies, flashlight and batteries, medical first aid kit, any medications you need, copies of licenses, medical information, insurance policies and a list of contacts.
2. Develop a family or household preparedness plan including smoke detectors, a designated place to meet in case of emergency, and a stock of emergency supplies.
3. Be informed about the hazards which might impact you, from a pandemic influenza to a major weather event, and how to best respond to each.
