PULLMAN, Wash. Dean Luethi, an assistant professor of music at Washington State University and conductor of the University Singers and VoJazz, has been selected to travel to Cuba as part of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) International Exchange Program. Luethi is one of seven conductors in the country selected to travel to Cuba to teach master classes and participate in a cultural exchange with local choirs. In May, ACDA and the Cuban Music Center will host the Cuba-U.S. Choral Symposium.
Over the summer, Luethi gave a presentation titled “The Power of Song” at the Phenomenon of Singing International Symposium in Newfoundland, Canada. He was selected to participate on the national committee for Stanford’s development of their Teacher Preparation Assessment in Music.
In August, Luethi also traveled to Europe with Lori Wiest, WSU director of choral activities, and WSU students to perform in the 36th annual Classical Music Festival in Eisenstadt, Austria. They performed in Vienna’s St. Stephen’s Cathedral and the Bergkirche.
Last June, Luethi was a vocalist in the professional choral ensemble, the Richard Zielinski Singers, as they travelled through the Oklahoma City and Norman, Okla. area.
