School of Music, Faculty Artist Series opens this Friday

2011-2012 FACULTY ARTIST SERIES BEGINS!

Drumstick Meets Licorice Stick
Friday, September 9, 2011
8:00PM • Kimbrough Concert Hall

The 20th century produced a fascinating repertoire in new instrumental combinations. That will be demonstrated in “Drum Stick/Licorice Stick,” the first performance of the 2011-12 season of the Washington State University Faculty Artist Series.

Ticket proceeds from the series benefit the School of Music scholarship fund. Tickets, available in the lobby one hour before concert time, are free to WSU students, $5 for other students and senior citizens and $10 general admission.

WSU faculty members David Jarvis (percussion), Shannon Scott (clarinet) and Karen Hsiao Savage (piano) will explore a wide range of moods and color via works by composers ranging from Dane Carl Nielsen to American Libby Larsen.

This is the opening concert for the WSU Faculty Artist Series. Upcoming performances include:
•Sept. 23: “Words of Wisdom,”
8 p.m., Bryan Hall Theatre

•Oct. 19: “Jazz in the Space Age,” with Nighthawk,
8 p.m. Kimbrough Concert Hall
•Nov. 18: “Hidden Treasures,” with the Palouse Trio,
8 p.m., Bryan Hall Theatre
