Tours, family fun support small-farm stewardship, business

TACOMA, Wash. – The King County Harvest Celebration and Pierce County HarvestFEST will be 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, Sunday, Sept. 25, and Saturday, Oct. 1, featuring 28 public farm tours and fun activities for the whole family.

With kid’s activities, wine tasting, farm stands and more, King and Pierce county residents can experience the local food and farm economy first hand.

“Visiting farms on the tour helps support local businesses so our communities stay strong and local food dollars keep circulating in our local communities,” said Brad Gaolach, WSU Extension director for Pierce and King counties. “Also, with so many enjoyable attractions on each farm, this event is a fun way for families to learn about how our food is grown and how our farmers are stewards of the environment.”

The tours are free, but a $5 donation is suggested. Participants are asked to dress for a farm visit and to bring water, snacks and a lunch.

This event is coordinated by WSU Extension with the support of multiple King and Pierce county organizations. For more information and a brochure listing the farms offering tours, visit here.
