Committed to Clery Act, but disagree on ‘danger’ posed

WSU currently faces an $82,500 fine from the Department of Education for what it views as violations to the Jeanne Clery Act.

President Elson S. Floyd in his Aug. 22 Perspectives column noted that while the university acknowledges the violations, it believes it is innaccurate for the DOE to claim that the individual errors identified in 2007 truly posed a danger to the campus community.

The violations stem from a misclassification and reporting of two sex-related crimes and the failure to provide complete statements about campus crime reporting procedures in the annual report we produce on Clery Act compliance.
