Gregoire names former ASWSU president as regent

PULLMAN, Wash. — Jacob Bredstrand, a Washington State University graduate student and immediate past president of the Associated Students of WSU, has been appointed as the student member of the WSU Board of Regents for the 2011-2012 academic year.

Bredstrand’s selection as WSU’s fourteenth student regent was announced this week by Gov. Christine Gregoire. The appointment runs through June 30, 2012.

Awarded a bachelor’s degree in Humanities from WSU earlier this year, Bredstrand is currently pursuing graduate studies in Sports Management. While at WSU, he has served on the Athletic Council, the University Recreation Board and the NCAA Steering Committee. A member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, he was named “Greek Man of the Year” by the WSU Interfraternity Council in 2010.

“‘It is an honor to have been appointed to such an important position for our university,” Bredstrand said. “I feel that my previous experience and knowledge of our university will allow me to be an effective and engaged member of the board. I am eager to get to know my fellow regents and represent a strong student perspective.”
Bredstrand is from Vancouver, Wash., where he graduated from Evergreen High School in 2005. He is the son of Stephany Kyle and John Bredstrand.

The WSU Board of Regents is the university’s governing body. The board consists of 10 members, one of whom is a student.
