PULLMAN, Wash. – From the whimsical to the sensible, the WSU Campus ArtTour has something for everyone. Perhaps it’s a new way to entertain out-of-town guests or bored kids during summer vacation. Or a focus for your fair-weather lunchtime stroll around campus.
The Campus ArtTour is a self-guided phone tour of more than 50 pieces of outdoor art on the WSU Pullman campus. All you need is a brochure, a cell phone and a good pair of walking shoes to enjoy seeing the campus from a different perspective.
Organized into five broad locations – Stadium Way, the Fine Arts Center, Terrell Mall, and East and West Campus – the brochure provides a phone number to call where you can listen to information about the art as you visit each piece.
The concept came out of the Visual, Performing and Literary Arts Committee (VPLAC) and was brought to life by Trevor Park, former VPLAC student coordinator. Angel Nava, arts and program coordinator and VPLAC advisor since May 2011, said the program is ongoing; recent availability of the brochure is the “soft launch” phase.
Future plans include putting the brochure online to make it accessible to more people and having a night tour of the art this fall featuring glowing lighted installations.
Brochures are available on campus at the Cub Art Gallery, the Alumni Centre, the Welcome Center (second floor of Lighty) and the Museum of Art, and off campus at the WSU Visitors Center on Grand Avenue.
