President announces tuition increases for 2011-12 year

The Washington state Legislature has completed its work on the 2011-13 biennial budget. As expected, it includes a dramatic cut in WSU’s state allocation for the biennium, a reduction of $108 million or 26 percent from our current maintenance level over the next two years. That will mean that, over four years, the university will have experienced a net state appropriated budget reduction of 52 percent, or $231 million.

While this session was dominated by the budget deliberations, lawmakers also passed a number of other bills, including one that grants flexibility to state universities to set tuition levels for in-state undergraduates.
