High school teams compete with innovative energy solutions

PULLMAN, Wash. – Students from 49 secondary schools statewide will present innovative solutions to alternative energy challenges at the Imagine Tomorrow competition sponsored by Washington State University May 20-22.

More than 400 students have formed 122 teams to compete for more than $100,000 in cash prizes from sponsors. The top awards in four challenge areas will be $5,000 to the team and $5,000 for the school.

Student teams will present their projects for judging all day Saturday, May 21 – except during the 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. lunch break – in the CUB ballrooms on the WSU Pullman campus. There are no set presentation times, but displays will have at least one student present at all times.

The keynote speaker will be Doug Moore, president of McKinstry – a Seattle-based construction, energy and facility-services firm with approximately $400 million in annual revenue. He has earned a national reputation for delivering energy-efficient, sustainable solutions to construction challenges.

Imagine Tomorrow challenges high school students to seek new ways to support the transition to alternative energy sources. Students research complex topics, then innovate technologies, designs or plans to mobilize behavior. They forge connections in their communities to create positive change.
