Open Mic Poetry Reading Nights slated for summer

RICHLAND, Wash. – Poets of all ages and experience levels are invited to share their creativity Tuesday, May 3, at Open Mic Poetry Reading Night at Washington State University Tri-Cities.

The Laura Walker Jacobs and Irene Hayes will host the free, public event at 7:30 p.m. in the East Building Auditorium.

Open Mic participation is open to all styles, such as hip-hop, cowboy, rhyming, free verse and chanting. Performers register on a sign-up sheet passed around at the start of the event. Those who sign up are invited to the microphone to read an original poem that is no longer than 1-1/2 pages. As time allows, there will be a second or third round of poetry.

People who support poetry are invited to listen, with no pressure to share.

Open Mic Poetry Reading Nights also will be on June 7, July 5 and August 2.
