PULLMAN, Wash. — A juvenile Great Horned Owl apparently jumped out of its nest and landed on a lower branch Thursday, in a spruce tree on the west side of Bohler Gym.

The baby Great Horned Owl (bubo virginianus) tends to draw passing spectators who are walking between classes and meetings.

Just above in the tree is the nest with a sibling baby owl, where the mother brings food.

Shelly Hanks, WSU Photo Services, took a few shots of the bird on Thursday afternoon, including its nearby nest and a momentary stretching of its talons (above).
