Wilkerson named interim director of Student Affairs

RICHLAND, Wash. — Carol Wilkerson has been named interim director of the Office of Student Affairs at Washington State University Tri-Cities, effective May 1.

Wilkerson joined WSU Tri-Cities in fall 2010 as director of the TRiO Student Support Services program and to lead the process to earn federal designation as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI).

As interim director of Student Affairs, she will oversee admissions, recruitment, registrar, financial aid, undergraduate academic advising, student involvement, disability services, counseling services, tutoring services, and veterans affairs — in addition to the TRiO program and HSI initiative.

Wilkerson brings a broad background in academia and student outreach to the two-year appointment. As the first in her family to graduate from college, she has a special dedication to ensuring WSU Tri-Cities students receive the support they need to graduate.

She earned her Ph.D. in foreign language education in 1994 from the University of Georgia and is fluent in Spanish. Her previous positions include campus dean, academic dean, chair of the foreign languages department and interim associate vice president of civic engagement and service learning.

The previous director of Student Affairs, Jaime Contreras, has resigned effective the end of April. He joined WSU Tri-Cities in June 2008.
