Award recognizes new faculty for quality research

PULLMAN – Nehal Abu-Lail, an assistant professor in the Gene and Linda Voiland School of Chemical Engineering and Bioengineering, has received the 3M Nontenured Faculty Grant from the 3M Corporation.

The award, which includes a three-year, $45,000 unrestricted grant, recognizes outstanding new faculty for their high quality and pertinent research; it is intended to help young faculty further their careers in research and teaching.

Abu-Lail has been at WSU since 2006. Her research is focused on nanoscale cellular interactions and mechanics. For instance, she is working to better understand how bacteria stick to surfaces and how that correlates to their virulence.

Abu-Lail holds a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
