BURLINGTON – WSU Skagit County Extension is offering its Livestock Advisor Program, a 10-week course held on Tuesdays beginning Tuesday Feb. 22 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Stanwood High School, 7400 272nd Street NW in Stanwood. In return for the training, graduates commit to giving back 60 hours of volunteer time over two years.
The cost for the training is $200, with a $50 rebate after the completion of the volunteer hours. Space is limited. The application can be downloaded at http://skagit.wsu.edu/Agriculture/volunteer.htm or call 360-428-4270 to request and application.
The training will cover feeding, breeding, housing and handling of beef cattle, sheep, goats, and swine as well as pastured poultry, meat birds and rabbits. The course will also cover management of mud, manure, fencing, pasture and predators.
