Students Can Explore Living Options at WSU Housing Fair

PULLMAN, Wash.— Informing students about off-campus and on-campus housing options and their rights and responsibilities as renters are the main goals of the Washington State University Housing Fair scheduled for 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Wed., Feb. 16, in the Compton Union Building’s Junior Ballroom.

There are numerous housing options available to students in the area.  The Housing Fair, sponsored by ASWSU and the Office of the Dean of Students, brings together university and community housing providers to allow students the opportunity to begin conversations and learn about all housing options.

Representatives will highlight how to have good rental experiences, address concerns about facility conditions, rental contractual issues, and safety and security considerations as a tenant.

“Some students don’t even know where to start looking for housing, said Patrick Horton, ASWSU Director of Greek Affairs and event co-coordinator.  “When students decide to move off-campus, many are overwhelmed with the number of housing options available to them.  The fair allows an opportunity for students to become heavily informed about the important living decisions they are making.”

The Housing Fair will feature a seminar series covering topics such as staying safe in your home, student assistance programs and housing resources, and off-campus housing financial considerations.  Student Legal Services will also be available and provide information about landlord – tenant laws and students’ rights.

“The objective of this program is to help support and enhance student development and academic success,” said Fischer.
