Police to discuss weapons, alcohol and intern duties at forums

PULLMAN – Monthly WSU Police face-to-face foums in the CUB lounge will cover intern responsibilities, the use of lethal force and the dangers of mixing alcohol and energy drinks.

The free public forums will be 4-5 p.m. on their respective dates, beginning with “Decision Time: Lethal Force” on Feb. 8. Stick, knife or gun—police officers must decide in half a second which one a potential opponent possesses. They will discuss how they train to make that split-second decision. A question-and-answer session with SWAT team members will follow, with a chance to view their equipment.

On March 8, “Energy Drinks and Alcohol: They Will Give You ‘Wings’!” will feature experts to talk about these potentially lethal concoctions.

At the “Campus Interns: The Other Blue Bloods” forum on April 12, participants can meet some of the campus police interns and hear about their training and responsibilities. This Q-and-A session will provide a better understanding of the interns’ role with WSU Campus Police.

The WSU Police Face-to-Face Forums series is presented by the WSU Police Advisory Board and sponsored by Alternatives to Violence of the Palouse, Coalition for Women Students, Compton Union Services, Women’s Transit and YWCA of WSU.
