Fall takes last fling, offers spectacular color

PULLMAN – Winter tempertatures and darker days are creeping in, but nature has  allowed fall a last spectacular fling, as trees and bushes across the WSU Pullman campus display a brilliant palette of colors.

Scientifically, the shorter daytime hours and cooler temperatures create a complex chemical reaction in leaves and plants, causing the quiet green colors of summer foliage to transformed into reds, oranges, golds and browns before the leaves fall off the trees.
