Opera cinema series, lectures visit the Palouse

PULLMAN – The Village Centre Cinema in Pullman is showing a film series of the San Francisco Opera with lectures by WSU and University of Idaho faculty.

The shows begin at 2 p.m. with a 1 p.m. pre-production talk. The encores, without the pre-production discussion, will play at 6:30 p.m. The series wraps up with “Samson and Delilah” on Feb. 20, with a talk by Pamela Bathurst, UI voice faculty (encore show on Feb. 22).

Following all of the Sunday performances, there will be a gathering at Fireside Grill to discuss the productions.

San Francisco Opera attracts international singers, conductors, stage directors and designers. The show is recorded live at San Francisco’s historic War Memorial Opera House and presents musical and theatrical productions.

Tickets cost $14 per showing or four tickets for $40. These tickets may be used for the same day or may be used singularly for the entire series. Tickets will be available at the Village Centre Cinemas beginning Nov. 5.

“We are thrilled that the Village Centre Cinemas has been successful in bringing the San Francisco Opera Company to our local theatre,” said Lori Wiest, WSU School of Music faculty.

Private showing for classes or organizations can be arranged by contacting Wiest at lwiest@wsu.edu.
