PULLMAN – The experiences of soldiers deployed to Afghanistan will be presented by a veterans’ panel at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, in Fulmer 226. The free public event is part of the WSU Common Reading Program.

The panel, organized by Matt Zimmerman, WSU Veterans’ Affairs, will include two representatives from the United States military and one from the British armed forces. The event is scheduled to align with Veterans’ Day, observed Nov. 11.

The panelists are Captain William Cooper, WSU Army ROTC; Kristel Hallsson, post-baccalaureate student and technical sergeant in the U.S. Air Force; and Stephen James, political science graduate student and lieutenant in the Royal Irish Regiment.
The Common Reading Program spans two semesters. It features a lecture series by WSU faculty, staff and guests – typically on Tuesdays – on topics pertaining to the freshman common reading book. This year’s book, “Stones into Schools: Promoting Peace with Books not Bombs in Afghanistan and Pakistan,” by Greg Mortenson, follows the Montana humanitarian in his attempts to build schools in the rural regions of the two title countries.

In its fourth year, the Common Reading Program is part of the WSU University College. For more information, visit http://CommonReading.wsu.edu or http://facebook.com/CommonReading.
