KXLY extends WSU football, basketball agreement

PULLMAN – WSU Athletics and the KXLY Broadcast Group announced Thursday, Oct. 14, the extension of an agreement in which KXLY-AM will remain the radio broadcast flagship station for football and men’s basketball through the 2013-14 academic year.

The KXLY Broadcast Group and KXLY-AM 920 have been synonymous with Cougar football broadcasts for more than three decades and continuing that relationship was a priority for WSU Athletics Director Bill Moos.

“KXLY and WSU Athletics have enjoyed a great relationship over the past several decades and there is no doubt that our brand is stronger and fan base more extensive because of this partnership,” said Moos. “We look forward to continuing this relationship into the future.”

The new agreement included the addition of the Bill Moos Radio Show hosted by KXLY’s Bud Nameck, sideline reporter for WSU football broadcasts and play-by-play voice of Cougar basketball. The 30-minute show airs every Monday morning on AM700 ESPN The Ticket, part of the KXLY Radio Group.

“KXLY has enjoyed our special relationship with Washington State University,” said Steve Herling, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the KXLY Broadcast Group. “Seven years ago we were asked to manage the Cougar Sports Radio Network for the University, and though it was not our core business model of radio and television, we were privileged and enjoyed doing it. As the Cougars’ flagship station we look forward to continuing successes as we concentrate our efforts in the Spokane and Coeur d’Alene markets.”
