New standard desk phones to be provided in future at WSU Pullman
PULLMAN – Information Technology Services has scheduled an open forum, 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, in Lighty 405, to discuss the preliminary transition plans for a new Pullman campus telephone and e-mail system.
The telephone system is both antiquated and increasingly expensive to operate and maintain. Consequently, the decision has been made to begin a gradual migration to Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP). Additionally, the existing Pullman e-mail system is equally old and challenging to operate and maintain. The hardware will become unsupportable at the end of this year and will need to be completely replaced.
Numerous options have been explored to replace the existing e-mail system; however each presents its own set of challenges. Thus, the decision has been made to begin acquiring new hardware and software to replace the existing Exchange e-mail system. This open forum provides an opportunity for the Pullman campus community to learn about the current initial transition plans for both the Pullman campus telephone and e-mail systems.
