WSU to host Nat’l Institute of Food and Agriculture Workshop

PULLMAN – Washington State University, in partnership with several national agricultural and food organizations, is hosting a one-day, workshop on the preparation and management of competitively awarded, systems-based grant applications. The event will be held 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 8.

Partnering with WSU are the Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education program (SARE), the Specialty Crop Research Initiative (SCRI), and the Organic Research and Extension Initiative (OREI) within the National Institute of Food and Agriculture.

These organizations require that grant applicants use a systems approach to meet challenges faced by food and agriculture producers and consumers.

The theme will be similar to last year’s workshop, which was hosted by Cornell University in Ithaca NY. However, because of the technology available for archiving last year’s presentations, we do not plan to repeat any talks from last year.

So, based on the same theme, this conference will feature different topics and new speakers who will provide fresh perspectives and case studies on:

  • stakeholder engagement
  • systems thinking
  • sustainability
  • tightly coupled research and extension
  • presentations on project team building
  • proposal preparation
  • proposal writing and rewriting
  • eXtension Communities of Practice
  • multiinstitutional projects from a sponsored programs office perspective
