WSU Children’s Center names new director

Radziemski
Smith

PULLMAN – Longtime childcare professional Mina A. Smith will assume leadership of WSU’s Children’s Center Aug. 9.

Smith surfaced as the leading candidate following an extensive search process. She will succeed Mary Ellen Radziemski, who is retiring after serving as the center’s director for 30 years.
Smith has 19 years of combined experience as a leader in the child care industry. She is currently the Child Care Manager for Spokane’s ABC Discovery Child Care Center affiliated with Goodwill Industries of the Inland Northwest.

Previous experience includes serving as director of Little Red Schoolhouse, Inc., and Tundra Tykes, Inc., both located in Anchorage, Alaska.

“Mina has a wonderful combination of experience, energy, and passion for early childhood education,” said Melynda Huskey, assistant vice president for WSU’s Division of Student Affairs, Equity and Diversity. “We look forward to the innovations and vision she brings to the Center.”

Smith graduates this month from Eastern Washington University with a bachelor’s degree in Children’s Study Early Childhood Education.
