Managing in Cougar Country today

The fifth annual Managing in Cougar Country conference for managers and supervisors is scheduled for 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, in Smith CUE 203.

A variety of workshops will focus on the theme “Vision and Collaboration in the WSU Community.”

In addition there will be workshops on what is considered appropriate – and inappropriate – behavior in the workplace. How should you confront inappropriate behavior should it arise? What are the unique responsibilities of supervisors in regard to the issues of potential harassment and discrimination?

This workshop provides definitions and examples of workplace harassment and highlights the Executive Policies addressing these issues. Its emphasis is to provide participants with the tools necessary to establish appropriate personal behavior standards and maintain a harassment-free workplace at WSU.

The conference is sponsored by WSU Human Resource Services.

Morning presentations will feature Larry James, associate executive vice president, and Kristine Kuhn, associate professor of management and operations.

Participants may choose from a variety of afternoon workshops, including: communication, funding, succession planning, and workplace harassment prevention. Among the speakers leading these sessions are Sharyl Kammerzell, Attorney General Office division chief; Joan King, Planning and Budget executive director; Eleanor Finger, Resident Life director; Bridgette Johnson, Parking and Transportation director; and Chris Wuthrich, dean of students.
