Jazz Big Band and VoJazz in concert

PULLMAN – The WSU School of Music and the Jazz Society will present WSU’s Jazz Big Band and VoJazz, a vocal jazz ensemble, during Jazz Concert at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9 in Kimbrough Concert Hall.

The concert is free to the public.

The WSU Jazz Big Band is currently under the direction of Dave Snider, jazz bass instructor, while Gregory Yasinitsky is on sabbatical leave. Dave Snider has selected five celebrated compositions: “So Long Eric” by Charles Minus, “It Mostly Bees That Way Sigmund Floyd” by Phil Wilson, “Begin The Beguine” by Artie Shaw, “Do Nothing Till You Hear From Me” by Duke Ellington and “Europa” by Carlos Santana. Dave Snider, an accomplished jazz composer and arranger, has taken each one of these compositions and arranged them exclusively for the WSU Jazz Band. Graduate students and saxophonists Patrick Sheng, Stan Sabourin, and Sarah Lincoln Cosano will be featured on “Europa,” “Do Nothing Till You Hear From Me,” and “Begin the Beguine,” with a special performance on clarinet by Cosano.

WSU VoJazz, under the direction of Kathleen Hollingsworth, will perform selections by Miles Davis, The Real Group and an original gospel-influenced arrangement of “This Little Light of Mine,” arranged by Kathleen Hollingsworth. This lively and soulful group will also sing a beautiful acappella arrangement of WSU’s very own Charles Argersinger, entitled “A Little Luck.”
