Golf Digest ranks Palouse Ridge No. 2

PULLMAN — Golf Digest has ranked Palouse Ridge Golf Club as No. 2 on its list of America’s Best New Courses of 2009. The annual ranking, which is in its 27th year, will be featured in the January 2010 issue of Golf Digest, on newsstands today.

“Thrilled and honored understates our feelings about this announcement,” said Tom Isaak, president of CourseCo, Inc., the golf course management firm hired by WSU to operate Palouse Ridge. “This very likely is the best university golf course in America, and easily the most beautiful, thanks to the unique Palouse landscape and architect John Harbottle III.”

“This matches our ‘World Class, Face to Face motto,’” said Mel Taylor, executive director of real estate and external affairs for WSU.  “This is our second No. 2 ranking with top golf publications. Not only is Palouse Ridge a ‘must play,’ the course is successful as a laboratory and partner in the academic mission of multiple university departments.”

The survey was conducted using a panel of more than 900 panelists, who evaluated courses using five criteria: shot values, design variety, resistance to scoring, memorability and aesthetics. To be eligible, a course must have officially opened (or re-opened after a remodel) between May 1, 2008 and April 30, 2009.
