PULLMAN – Parenting specialist Mac Bledsoe and Bob Craves, co-founder of the College Success Foundation, will be featured speakers at the WSU College of Education’s Homecoming weekend celebration.
The seminars will be held on Oct. 9, followed by the Scholarship and Excellence Awards presentation on Oct. 10, at the Palouse Ridge Golf Course. The events are open to the public.
Craves’ 1:30 p.m. Friday presentation will be held in the Education Addition, Room 110. As co-founder, chairman and CEO of the College Success Foundation, he works to provide college scholarships and mentoring to low-income, high-potential students. He will explain the origins of the College Success Foundation and how it works with students from middle school through college. Craves was a founding officer of the Costco Wholesale Corp. and also served as the chairman of the Washington State Higher Education Coordinating Board. He is a co-chair of the 2020 Commission on the Future of Post-Secondary Education.
Bledsoe’s presentation, “21st Century Children: Tools for Getting Beyond Crisis Management,” will begin at 3 p.m. in the CUE, Room 203. A school teacher and coach with more than 30 years of experience helping students and their parents, Bledsoe developed one of America’s most effective parent education curricula, Parenting with Dignity. The program gives parents guidance and tools to help teach responsible decision making, accountability and strong values.
The two presentations will follow a 10:30 a.m. discussion of cyber bullying led by Garren Shannon, director of information systems for the Pullman School District. The location of this presentation will be announced at the registration website.
Two local educators, Delores “Dee” Baumgartner and Rena Mincks, will be honored at Saturday’s Scholarship and Excellence Award event. Cost of the event, which will include brunch and beverages, is $10 per person and free to children ages 12 and under.
