PULLMAN – Award-winning WSU Jazz Ensembles will present in concert at WSU at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009 in Kimbrough Concert Hall.

The concert will open with the WSU vocal jazz ensemble (VOJAZZ) directed by Kathleen Hollingsworth. Director Hollingsworth will lead a unique introduction inspired by Billy Martin of Medeski, Martin and Wood and his book of  Afro-Cuban “Riddims”. VOJAZZ will also perform a wonderful arrangement of the Miles Davis classic, “All Blues.” The concert will feature inspired soloists and wonderful harmonies.

The WSU Jazz Big Band directed by Greg Yasinitsky will perform the hard swinging “Late Arrival” by Jeff Jarvis, the contemporary “Song for A. E. G.” by Tom Garling, Yasinitsky’s arrangement of the classic ballad “Chelsea Bridge” by Billy Strayhorn and the fiery “Willowcrest” made popular by the Buddy Rich Band, composed by Bob Florence.

Soloists will include saxophonists Patrick Sheng, David Crow, Stan Sabourin, Sarah Lincoln and Matt Lanka; trombonist Drake Da Ponte, pianist Charles Wicklander, drummer Scott Langdon and bassist Tanner Brown.
