RICHLAND — The worldwide energy future, along with energy issues related to population growth and economic expansion, will be discussed Sept. 18 at WSU Tri-Cities.
 
The nuclear-related engineering professional development seminar will be presented by Roger S. Reynolds, a nuclear engineer and adjunct professor in the Mechanical Engineering Program at WSU Tri-Cities.
 
The “Status of the Nuclear Industry” seminar is at 12:10 p.m. in the West Building, Room 210, at 2710 University Drive. It is also available by video conference at WSU Pullman in The Murrow Building, Room 53. Admission to the seminar is free and open to the public.
 
“The presentation will include brief discussions of the nuclear fuel cycle and current light-water reactor designs in use today, how nuclear power has evolved and is deployed in the U.S. and the world, and a brief discussion of next generation designs,” Reynolds said.
 
Reynolds earned his master’s and doctoral degrees in nuclear engineering at Kansas State University. He has worked as a professor of nuclear engineering at Mississippi State University, reactor engineer and a nuclear fuels engineer at the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station in Mississippi and chief engineer for Fuel America at AREVA NP Inc. He specializes in thermal hydraulics, neutronics, reactor design and nuclear fuel cycle analysis.
