Telephone system upgrade and service outage planned

PULLMAN — The WSU Pullman telephone system upgrade and maintenance, including telephone service outages, is scheduled for August 1-2.

ITS technicians will begin prep work at midnight Friday, July 31 with planned land-line telephone service outages from 3 a.m. Saturday, August 1 through 4 p.m. Sunday, August 2.  The upgrade and maintenance may not last the entire time and telephone service will be restored as soon as possible.

All emergency phones, public service phones, or voice-based alarm circuits which are based on analog service from the telephone switch will also be unavailable.

Phone users at the urban campus locations (Spokane, Tri-Cities, and Vancouver) will still have the ability to dial on-campus, local area numbers, and long-distance numbers.  However, urban campus access to 5-digit dialing will be unavailable.

For safety and emergency purposes, ITS advises anyone who will be on the Pullman campus during this planned telephone service outage to carry a cell phone.  All phone services should be fully restored by 4 p.m. on August 2.

Information Technology Services is replacing and upgrading core components to the telephone switch which are obsolete.

For questions or concerns regarding this planned telephone system upgrade please contact Les Grammer at 509-335-0442 or the IT Network & Computing Operations Center @ 335-4949 or email operator@wsu.edu.  For questions during the telephone service outage please contact the ITS Project Team at 509-334-1442, Les Grammer at cell 509-432-3857 or email IT NetOps at operator@wsu.edu
