Nominations open for Community Awards

VANCOUVER – One way WSU Vancouver is celebrating its 20th anniversary is by establishing two Community Awards of Distinction that will be given annually.

The awards will be presented to community members or organizations in two categories: Community Partnership and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. Any member of the community may submit a nomination. Nominations are currently being accepted. The deadline for nominations is 5 p.m. August 5. The awards will be made for the first time at Washington State University Vancouver’s 20th anniversary gala on September 19.

The award for Community Partnership will be given to an individual or organization whose leadership has made a significant impact on the community. The recipient will have demonstrated commitment to community partnerships, prosperity, vitality and the overall well-being within WSU Vancouver’s region—the greater Portland metropolitan and Southwest Washington geographic areas. A 500-word nomination essay should cover the following points: value to community, length of service, sustainability of effort/impact, leadership and collaboration.

The award for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion will be given to an individual or organization whose exceptional achievement has broadly impacted equity, diversity and inclusion within WSU Vancouver’s region. A 500-word nomination essay should cover the following points: value to community, length of service/effort, long-term sustainability of achievement, breadth of reach, advocacy and impact.

Nomination forms may be downloaded from www.vancouver.wsu.edu/awards. Completed nomination forms should be sent to the Office of the Chancellor, Washington State University Vancouver, 14204 NE Salmon Creek Avenue, Vancouver, WA 98686, emailed to johnsonje@vancouver.wsu.edu or faxed to 360-546-9043. Questions may be directed to Jan Johnson, principal assistant to the Chancellor at 360-546-9589.

Award winners will be selected by a committee of WSU Vancouver staff, faculty and community members.
