WSU to hold 34th annual Pah-loots-pu powwow

PULLMAN — The 34th annual Pah-loots-pu powwow celebration is being held Friday and Saturday, April 10 and 11, in the Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum.

The first session will be held on Friday from 7 p.m. till midnight, with the second and third sessions to be held on Saturday between 11 a.m. till 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. till midnight.

This year’s celebration features an honoring of Veterans and the annual blanket ceremony for Native American Graduates. The head staff includes Acossia Red Elk, noted jingle dancer, David Browneagle as head man dancer, and the host drum White Hawk from Nes Pelham.

Competitions will include both traditional and fancy dancing for all ages. Frybread will be sold for a nominal charge, and venders will be on hand selling Native American craft items.

The Pah-Loots-Pu powwow is a celebration of culture and provides another element of diversity on the WSU campus. It is a gathering of and for all, with the songs and dances of indigenous people taking center stage.

The Pah-loots-pu powwow is sponsored by ASWSU Ku-Au-Mah, the Native American Alliance, The Native American Women’s Association, and The Native American Student Center as well as Student Affairs-Equity and Diversity.

Admission is free.
