WSU leaders refining budget scenarios

Preliminary plans for dealing with budget reductions in the upcoming biennium were discussed by the president, provost, chancellors, deans and vice presidents during two days of meetings this week.

The Washington Legislature is scheduled to complete its budget deliberations by the end of April. WSU will not be able to finalize its budget before that time, but university leaders are preparing for a substantial budget cut.

In coming weeks, the budget scenarios will be refined based on input received at the meetings.

Many of the ideas for savings and efficiencies will be taken to the University Budget Committee for discussion next week.

The committee web page will no longer be accepting suggestions for possible budget savings. While there was an outpouring of useful suggestions after the page went online in December, in recent weeks the rate of suggestions has slowed considerably.
