PULLMAN — The WSU Madrigal Singers, University Singers and Concert Choir will perform in a Choral Concert celebrating the musical compositions of composers from Renaissance to Contemporary Thursday, March 12, at 8 p.m. in Bryan Hall Theatre.
The Madrigal Singers, under the direction of Lori Wiest, will perform two contemporary sacred pieces from Kenneth Jennings and Jean Berger followed by a lovely setting of Sara Teasdale’s “I would live in your love” composed by Phyllis Zimmerman. Two madrigals will complete the set by the Madrigal Singers: Monteverdi’s setting of “O Primavera” which compares the coming of spring to young love, and Juan del Encina’s gossip song, “Fatal la parte.”
Continuing the program, the University Singers, conducted by Kyle Chandler, will present a variety of works ranging from an early a cappella style piece to contemporary gospel with guest members of God’s Harmony; a selection each for men and women; and performance in Hebrew and Latin languages as well as English.
WSU Concert Choir, conducted by Wiest, will feature three German songs by Fanny Hensel, the acclaimed sister of Felix Mendelssohn, and two selections by Gioacchino Rossini, including a vocal transcription of his well-known work, “The Barber of Seville” which will surely delight all audience members.
The concert is free and open to the public.
