Hotel may see progress after fall elections

The design of a proposed $25 million, 120-room hotel and conference center on the WSU Pullman campus is still on hold, awaiting further planning and a financial investor. However, the long-term prospects for the plan remain sound.

“We’ve been working on this project since 2001,” said Ryan Ruffcorn, a project manager for WSU Capital Planning and Development.
Corporate Pointe Developers of Pullman began preliminary work on the facility in December, but worked slowed in order to secure financing and complete a market analysis and preliminary design, said Ruffcorn.

“Obviously, we’d like to move ahead as soon as possible,” he said. “We want to make this a destination so more people come to visit the community.”

Corporate Pointe president Duane Brelsford attributed the stall to the struggling economy, which affects construction costs, and to finding a long-term lender and development capital. Brelsford estimated the project might begin late this year or in early 2009.
