Continuing coverage for older dependents

Medical/dental coverage for dependent children may be affected if they’re graduating or going off to college.

Dependent children are eligible to continue coverage under their parents’ WSU employee plan through age 19. Those 20-23 are eligible if they are registered as a student and attending classes at an accredited secondary school, college, university, vocational school or school of nursing.

Coverage continues year-round for students who attend three of the four school quarters or two of the three school semesters, and for three months after graduation as long as the employee is covered at the same time and the dependant has not reached age 24.

To continue dependent coverage, a student certification/change form must be completed, certifying age and student status. This is available at Human Resource Services, French Ad 139, 335-4521, or ONLINE @ www.hrs.wsu.edu/utils/file.aspx?fileid=1104. This form will need to be completed when you enroll your student, annually, and when requested by the Public Employees Benefits Board (PEBB).

Federal COBRA (Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act) coverage is available for up to 36 months for dependents when they turn age 24 or are no longer enrolled as students. For more information, contact HRS at 335-4521.
