Employment fair open to Vancouver job seekers

VANCOUVER – For the 21st year, students and job seekers of all professional and technical positions can find a wealth of information in one place a the Pathways to Your Future Career Information and Job Fair, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 15 in the Hilton Hotel Vancouver. This is the largest job fair in Southwest Washington and celebrates its 21st year in Clark County. It is free and open to all job seekers. Last year this event attracted over 80 employers and thousands of participants. Clark College, Washington State University Vancouver and The Columbian newspaper are co-sponsoring the event.

Brian Rauscher, WSU Vancouver career counselor, offers several tips to prospective job seekers:
1. Professional dress is strongly encouraged; dress a step up from typical attire for your ideal job.

2. Check http://www.clark.edu/pathways to see which companies you might be interested in. Look at their websites to learn their values and missions, to see what positions they are hiring for, and what they look for in a candidate.

3. Come prepared to ask questions specific to your companies of interest, and be able to talk about your interests, skills and qualifications.

Seminars on successful résumé writing strategies, using the Internet in your job search and interview skills will be offered by WSU Vancouver career services professionals. In addition, résumé critiques and mock interviews will be available 12 to 3 p.m. with qualified volunteers who can provide instant feedback.
