SPOKANE – WSU is launching an update of the master plan for the Riverpoint Campus, last updated in 2000. An oversight committee including representatives of Eastern Washington University and Sirti as well as WSU has been established to work with the design firms that have been selected.
The process begins in April, with plans to complete the process in 120 days. Opportunities for public review and input will be announced when they are finalized.
NAC Architecture of Spokane will facilitate the effort, with the team led by Bruce Blackmer and Tom Golden. MIG Inc. will lead the public participation process as well as providing their input and guidance on existing master plan concepts and strategies. A campus and urban planning firm, MIG is currently doing the downtown Spokane plan update and also did the University District plan, Davenport Arts District plan, and the Friends of the Falls Spokane River Gorge Strategic Master Plan. KPFF, a Seattle civil engineering firm, will lead efforts related to civil engineering systems, and Flack+Kurtz of Seattle will lead efforts related to mechanical, electrical, plumbing and communication systems.
In updating the overall master plan, the committee will:
– Address changes in the area since 2000, such as construction of the Convention Center expansion, Sirti Technology Center, University District Strategic Master Plan, and Nursing Building;
– Incorporate changes envisioned for the future, including the Riverside Avenue extension, Pine Street Development, Spokane Falls Boulevard upgrade, and others;
– Coordinate the campus update with the downtown Spokane plan update including traffic and street revisions, street cars, pedestrian corridors, and other elements; and
– Incorporate the vision of an integrated academic plan for WSU and EWU at Riverpoint that has recently been finalized.
The committee includes representatives of students, staff, and faculty of EWU, WSU, and Sirti. It will be chaired by Bruce Thompson, Spokane director, capital planning & development for WSU.
