Regents to meet Friday at WSU Vancouver

PULLMAN – A variety of building and infrastructure improvement projects will be on the agenda for approval when the Board of Regents of WSU meets Friday (Feb.1) at the WSU Vancouver campus.

The meeting will begin at 9:30 a.m. in Room 129 of the Administration Building. The agenda for the meeting is available at http://www.regents.wsu.edu/meeting-materials/200801Agenda.pdf

The regents will be asked to approve beginning the process of selecting a design-build team for Phase III of the Martin Stadium renovation. That phase of the project is budgeted at $42 million; construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in early 2009. It will add upper level premium seating to the north side of the stadium, and will include luxury suites, loge boxes and club seats. It will be funded through revenue bonds and donations.

Details of the Martin Stadium renovation project are available at www.martinstadium.org.

The regents will be asked to approve acquisition of high-speed fiber that would enhance the Pullman campus’s connectivity to high-speed national fiber networks. Cost of the project is $5 million.

Other construction projects on the agenda include the refurbishment of Stephenson Tower and possible construction of a new residence hall on Olympia Avenue; both projects are part of an ongoing effort to improve student housing on the Pullman campus. The regents will be asked to give the go-ahead for the selection of a consulting firm to provide planning and design services for a proposed research laboratory building to serve the College of Veterinary Medicine on the Pullman campus. The regents also will consider approval of the bidding process for WSU Vancouver campus infrastructure improvements, valued at $2.785 million.

In other business, the regents will be asked to approve an amendment to clarify portions of the student conduct code, especially the provisions under which the conduct board can suspend a student for repeated violations.

The regents will consider Pullman campus housing and dining rates for the 2008-2009 academic year. The proposed rates show an increase of 8.8 percent, which reflect both increased costs of goods and services and the costs of the ongoing residence hall upgrades. The increase only affects new residents; continuing residents pay the same rate from their first year.

The Board of Regents will hold committee meetings Thursday in the WSU Vancouver administration building.
