PULLMAN -String, clarinet and piano faculty members from the WSU School of Music will perform during a concert of chamber-music favorites at 8 p.m. Jan. 25 in Bryan Hall.
The concert is part of the school’s Faculty Artists Series.
Faculty performing during the concert include Meredith Arksey, violin; Ruth Boden, cello; Richard Kriehn, violin; Jeffrey Savage, piano; Austin Schlichting, viola; and Shannon Scott, clarinet.
The concert will open with Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet for clarinet and string quartet. Dedicated to afamous clarinetist, this 1789 composition was one of the first major pieces to feature the clarinet.
The concert will also include Dvorak’s Quintet in A Major, Op. 81 for piano and string quartet, and Shostakovich’s Trio in E minor for violin, cello and piano. Composed in 1944 it was dedicated to the memory of Shostakovich’s best friend and features quotations of Jewish melodies.
Tickets will be available at the door and are free for WSU students with ID, $10 for general admission and $5 for seniors. All proceeds go the WSU School of Music Scholarship Fund.
