Jazz Pianist Mark Levine performs at WSU

Pullman – Jazz pianist Mark Levine will present a guest concert in the WSU Kimbrough Concert Hall on Tuesday, Jan. 22 at 8:00 p.m. The concert will be free of charge and is sponsored by the WSU School of Music and the Jazz Society at WSU.

Levine, a Grammy nominated pianist, has performed and recorded with many of the top figures in jazz including Woody Shaw, Joe Henderson, Blue Mitchell, David Liebman and Harold Land. The pianist’s interest in Latin Jazz led to work with Mongo Santamaria, Willie Bobo, Pete Escovedo, and Cal Tjader–including work on Cal’s Grammy-winning Concord Jazz recording “La Onda Va Bien”. Levine is also acclaimed as a composer. Many of his pieces are widely recorded and performed.

Additionally, Levine is the author of The Jazz Piano Book and The Jazz Theory Book, both of which have earned the status as standard texts in the field. The Drop Two Book, his latest, is receiving widespread, enthusiastic reviews.

Appearing with Levine will be WSU faculty members Frederick “David” Snider on bass and David Jarvis on drums along with performances by some surprise guests.

Levine will also be presenting a free clinic on Tuesday, Jan. 22 from 12:10-1:00 pm in room B48 in the Kimbrough Music Building.
